How To Reflect On The Past Year And Set Goals For The Year Ahead

One of the things I am most proud of is the fact that I have vision boards and annual reflections and goals for almost every one of the past twenty-five years. I am only missing five years in that time frame because for a multitude of reasons I skipped the odd year. I am proud of this fact also because that’s an 80% track record which is essentially what I strive to achieve in everything I do.

This blog is dedicated to sharing a simple process you can use this year and future years to reflect on what challenged you, what you achieved, and set some goals and aspirations for the coming year.

This annual reflection process has enabled me to track the important parts of my life and serves as a simple journal of my life. I take comfort from reviewing past year’s accomplishments and I find new lessons when I reflect on some of the bigger challenges I was facing. It’s an incredible gift and I invite you to try it out for yourself.

There are five parts to the annual reflection and goal setting process:

  1. Reflect on your greatest challenges in the year

  2. Reflect on your greatest achievements in the year

  3. Reflect on what you are most grateful for right now

  4. Set aspirations/goals/directions for the key areas of your life for next year

  5. Give yourself a glimpse of your life five years from now and identify one important longer-term goal

The more detailed “Annual Reflection & Aspirations Resource” will guide you through the process.

This December, give yourself the gift of reflecting on your life and harvest what you have learned over the past year. Set some simple aspirations, goals, and directions for next year so that you can be more intentional and conscious in the life you are building.
